The Loudoun County Health Department encourages anyone with influenza-like illness to follow these standard guidelines: - If you get sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
- Sneeze and cough into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
- Wash your hands often, scrubbing your hands together for 20 seconds with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
See www.loudoun.gov for more information about the H1N1 virus. |

Every rank in Boy Scouts has a requirement for "Scout Spirit". Unlike knot tying or first aid, Scout Spirit is a nebulous, abstract concept that seems to defy definition. The requirement "Demonstrate Scout Spirit by living the Scout Oath and the Scout Law in your everyday life" is one of requirements most frequently asked-about by Scoutmasters. The degree to which Scout Spirit applies varies by rank. Following is a Scoutmaster's "Cheat Sheet" from www.hatborotroop81.org attributed to C. Baelz. |

The Mulch delivery and pick-up on Saturday morning went well despite the pesky rain and cold.
Special thanks to all the Scouts (and their friends in some cases) that helped load and unload and, the parents that drove and helped load, unload and keep track of the pick-ups and deliveries. Amazingly, we handled 3,000 bags yet were done by 2PM! |

I need you to please give Carol Deckman a 50% deposit of $100 if you are planning on going Deep Sea fishing (total $200) or $50 if you are going Hatteras Pier Fishing (total $100). The deposit is due at the 5/4/09 Troop meeting. All participants on the trip must have completed the BSA Swim Test this year. Increased Emphasis on Back Country Camping This Year
Why does Scouting emphasize the outdoors: camping, canoeing, hiking and backpacking? Well, for one thing, we simply enjoy doing these things and being outside. However there is also a higher purpose in all of this too. One important theme in Scouting is service to others. In order to be of service you must be able to meet your own needs, to take care of yourself, and to cooperate with others towards common goals. There is no better training ground for this than the outdoors. This is why the Scout ranks through first class emphasize outdoor skills. |
